From Training to Service; Nura Suleiman Tiso’s Journey……….. from Kakuma to South Kurdorfon, Sudan
At Community Vitality Solutions CBO, we believe that investing in local capacity transforms lives and strengthens communities. One of our proud alumnus, Nura Suleiman Tiso, embodies this vision through her inspiring journey from training to service in her community in Nuba Mountain, Sudan.
My name is Nura Suleiman Tiso, and I am from South Kordofan, Sudan. I am Alumni cohort IV 2024, I started my journey in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya where I join a year medical and first aid training program at Community Vitality Solutions ……………….. I come to Sudan to visit my family and lucky enough I got an opportunity to serve my community in Nuba Mountain, Sudan and now I am currently working with Save the Children International as a Health and Nutrition Assistant at Katangara Primary Health Care Centre in Dilling County, where I support vulnerable communities, including internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The Medical and First Aid training by Community Vitality Solutions CBO has really changed my life by empowering me with essential skills to respond to emergencies, care for the sick patients and providing immediate support in areas with IDPs camps and medical support. This training has empowered me with skills not only in a classroom but in a real-life situation especially dealing with malnutrition cases
During the program, I gained hands-on experience and knowledge in First aid and emergency response, Community health awareness, and identifying and referring critical cases in difficult situations…………….the skills were not only taught in theory but also practiced in real-life scenarios, preparing me to work confidently in high-pressure environments such as IDPs camps and primary health care facilities in providing quality healthcare services to my community and I enjoy working directly in my community servicing family, friends, colleagues and everyone where the first aid services mostly needed.
Today, I apply skills daily in my work, especially when supporting children and families affected by malnutrition. The training has enabled me to assess patients quickly, provide immediate healthcare, and ensure timely referrals for advanced treatment when necessary.
In addition to clinical skills, the training strengthened my confidence, communication, and interpersonal abilities, allowing me to interact effectively with patients, caregivers, and community members. These skills have helped me contribute to family tracing and reunification efforts, supporting communities beyond direct medical care.
The Medical and First Aid Training did more than teach me skills—it gave me purpose and direction. It empowered me to serve my community with professionalism, compassion, and confidence. Today, I am proud to be part of a team that provides life-saving health and nutrition services to those who need them most.

I am deeply grateful to Community Vitality Solutions CBO for investing in my training and personal development. Programs like this are essential for building local healthcare worker’s capacity and ensuring that communities have trained individuals who can respond to emergencies and support their community in providing first aid services. I am happy to serve my community with the skills gained from the training.
