From Training to Community Impact: Yassin Omar Mukhtar’s Story
I am Yassin Omar Mukhtar, a proud alumnus of Cohort V (2025) at Community Vitality Solutions CBO. I have always been deeply passionate about health and driven by a strong commitment to serve my community.
Having lived in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, for over 13 years, I have witnessed firsthand the daily challenges people face in accessing timely and quality healthcare. These experiences shaped my desire to pursue meaningful training that would equip me with the skills to make a real difference.
That opportunity came through the Medical and First Aid Training Program offered by Community Vitality Solutions. The program provided me with practical knowledge, hands-on skills, and the confidence to respond effectively to health needs within my community. More than just training, it became a turning point in my life—opening doors to meaningful service and professional growth.

Today, I work as a Community Health Promoter (CHP) with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Kakuma Refugee Camp. In this role, I apply what I learned to educate families, promote healthy behaviors, and support individuals in accessing essential healthcare services. I help connect community members to clinics and hospitals, guide them through referral pathways, and provide vital health information.
Whether I am raising awareness about hygiene practices, supporting mothers with child health education, or encouraging individuals to seek timely medical care, I take pride in contributing to a system that brings hope and improved health outcomes to vulnerable communities.

“The training gave me the tools to serve my community with confidence. Every day, I use what I learned to promote health, prevent illness, and connect people to care. It is fulfilling to know that my work contributes to healthier families and a stronger community.”
My journey reflects the transformative power of access to skills and opportunity. From a trainee in Kakuma to a frontline health promoter with IRC, I am living proof that investing in community-based training creates lasting impact—not only for individuals, but for entire communities.
